The reason behind this is that there is a serious lack of documentation out there in tool usage. Worse yet, when documentation is present it is either poorly written or missing steps (which the writer assumes we, the user, should know). SGDKSGDK is a great beginner's introduction to 'C' development on the Megadrive / Genesis; the latest version of which can be found here. I call it a beginner's tool but this needs to be taken with a grain of salt - advanced users can also make very good use of SGDK, but as with all CPUs with similar MIPS and memory limitations best performance will ALWAYS be had with assembly coding. Nevertheless this is a great way to learn Megadrive / Genesis development as the Dev Kit comes with pre-tested functions for most operations and a built-in resource compiler. While there are some tutorials available in SGDK's wiki, I found that the instructions given to setup the SGDK environment with Code::Blocks did not work well for me. Keep in mind with these Tutorials that my focus will be on the audio subsystem - I will still touch on graphics but not as much. |
